Our select gilt (young female) pork is better than most pork you can buy — and there’s a reason. Read on to find out why.
Select Gilt Pork — Quarter Pack
Our quarter pack is a quarter of a whole carcass.
Expected price range: approximately $263–$368 including delivery
$21 per kg cwt — final delivered price depends on actual carcass weight.
Our quarter packs are taken from pigs with a carcass weight of approximately 50–70 kg cwt. If we cannot supply within this range, we will contact you before proceeding.
The quarter pack includes:
In many parts of the world, male pigs produced for meat are castrated to reduce the risk of boar taint. In Australia, entire male pigs are commonly raised because they grow efficiently and tend to produce leaner carcasses.
Boar taint is associated mainly with androstenone and skatole, which can produce an unpleasant smell or flavour in pork from some entire males.
Many Australian producers use vaccination against gonadotrophin-releasing factor (GnRF) to substantially reduce the risk of boar taint.
We take a different approach: for our Select Gilt Pork we source only young female pigs. We prefer the eating quality of gilt pork and believe it produces an excellent product.
No payment is required when you order. We will send your invoice once the carcass weight is confirmed.
